In the Eco- Wars

I was a climber, I was a squatter,

I did some actions in the Eco Wars.

We saved communities from the Highways Agency

We sat scores of diggers in the Eco Wars

I went to Newbury, and as nights got colder,

I put one more duvet in my house in the sky,

Then bailiffs came to chop the lot down,

Leaving me homeless in the Eco-Wars

I kept the faith, I kept believing

That what we were doing would help protect the land

For ours is a plan of a permaculture

And ours is a faith in our fellow man

Theirs is a land of bloated Tories

Mine is some freedom from the smog and the sprawl

Theirs is to hide the dark times coming

Mine is the struggle of the Eco wars

We were protesters, we were dissenters,

We were defendants in the Eco Wars

We nicked mahogany from Leeds down to Canterbury

From shops with no conscience in the Eco Wars

Go and show your intent

Defy the government

Go find a spanner and a bicycle lock

Free up your mind and fight the Eco War.

We closed down banks, and blocked their doorways

So that they might reform their dodgy plans

Cos they fund the dams that flood the forests

And cause Third World debt from Brazil to Sudan

Go grill the legal men

Paid by the Golden 'M'

Paint up some banners to hang from a crane

So come on down and join the Eco War
